Meta, the background company of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp, has launched its new Threads platform in Finland as well.
A direct competitor to Viestipalvelu X, which is very similar in functionality, was launched in other parts of the world already in the summer, but European users have not been allowed on the platform until now.
Threads have been considered as an alternative Elon Musk’s owned by X, formerly known as Twitter.
Immediately after its launch, Meta’s novelty platform gathered 70 million users worldwide in just a couple of days. Although the explosive growth did not continue for long, there were already around 140 million Threads users at the beginning of December, of which almost half were active.
of the Wall Street Journal according to Meta has estimated that it will get about 40 million new active users from the European Union.
EU regulations put the brakes on
We told you at the beginning of December that Threads’ entry into Europe has been slowed down by the European Union’s digital market regulation, which treats the collection of user data more strictly than what American companies are used to behind the scenes.
Meta has now circumvented the problem by offering users the opportunity to browse the social platform without an ID, in which case no data is collected. At least according to Meta’s interpretation, the existence of this option is apparently enough for the EU as well.
Here’s how to deploy
You log in to Threads with Instagram credentials. When creating an account, the user can choose whether they want to import their profile information from Instagram. At the same time, the user can put all his Instagram followers on the Threads side as well.
The Threads app is available for download in Apple’s App Store, but A microbit according to Google’s Play Store, it was still not found as of Thursday afternoon.
The platform can also be used with a web browser at threads.net.
