As previously reported, the copyright of the original Mickey Mouse expired on January 1st.
Mickey Mouse thus became a public figure, and Disney no longer has exclusive copyright to the earliest versions of the character. In practice, this means that anyone can use the character in their own art projects, such as movies.
Already on the first day after the copyright expired, a trailer for a new horror film was released.
A children’s character known from Disney films gets a shocking new role. A killer wearing a mask resembling the face of the original Mickey Mouse locks the youngsters in an arcade and kills them one by one. The film takes place in the slasher genre, which means it is supposed to be a brutal film full of blood and knife wielding.
Mickey’s Mouse Trap -the film’s release date has not yet been decided, but its creators plan to release it in March.

Supervisor Jamie Bailey said in the film’s announcement that the work was born out of a pure desire to play and have fun.
– It is Steamship Ville – from the movie Mickey Mouse, who murders people. It’s unrestrained. We decided to use the idea and had fun making the film. I believe it will also be reflected in the final result.
Among others, the main characters of the film will be seen Sophie McIntosh, Callum Sywyk and Allegra Nocita.

This is not a new phenomenon. The copyright of the Winnie the Pooh character expired in September 2022, and the release of copyright had a similar consequence.
Winnie the Pooh got to star immediately Winnie the Pooh – Blood and honey – a horror movie. Winnie the Pooh – Blood and honey is Mickey’s Mouse Trap – like the film, a raw and blood-splattering work.
Winnie the Pooh’s friend Tiger’s copyright expires this year. Movie fans are already feverishly waiting to see what will follow from the release of the copyright of this character.
