Dutch military support to Ukraine has increased by almost €550 million since October 3. This mainly concerns commercially acquired equipment. The total value of all equipment supplied and participation in funds now amounts to more than € 2.6 billion. Minister Kajsa Ollongren reported this to the House of Representatives today in a periodic update.
Minister Ollongren: “It is essential that allies continue to support Ukraine in the fight against the Russian occupier. The Netherlands must also continue to contribute to this, we cannot leave Ukraine out in the cold. With our support we ensure that Ukraine can continue to fight. They must not lose the battle. This is also about our freedom and security.”
In the past 2 months, the Netherlands has supplied combat vehicles, air defense systems, weapons, ammunition and drones. This also concerns items such as demining equipment, field hospitals, tents, cranes and numerous pieces of equipment and medical supplies. Spare parts for various types of (weapon) systems and vehicles have also been supplied. This strengthens the sustainability of the Ukrainian armed forces.
Effects of the armed forces
The effects of the support provided on the readiness of the Dutch armed forces are, given the circumstances, assessed as acceptable by Defense. Defense is taking measures to limit the consequences. For example, there are measures to accelerate the purchase of replacement equipment and project and purchasing capacity is being strengthened. Defense is generally compensated for the support provided.
European Peace Facility
€3.5 billion has currently been made available from the European Peace Facility (EPF). This amount serves as compensation for deliveries of military equipment from EU countries to Ukraine. The Netherlands has declared around 990 million until October 1, 2023. More than €242 million has already been compensated. Not all claims are fully reimbursed.
