The man who died in an accident on Mallorca on Thursday turns out to be the 31-year-old former attacker of Jong Vitesse Mourad Lamrabatte.

Lamrabatte is said to have died after jumping off a high cliff. That was in the southwestern part of the island. Mourad would have misjudged his jump and ended up on rocks and then ended up in the water.

Vitesse says on Twitter that it has received “the sad message” that Mourad Lamrabatte has passed away. “We wish family and friends a lot of strength and strength,” said the club.

Relatives and friends of the ex-Jong-Vitesse player receive countless statements of support from the sports world. Not only former colleague football players share in the grieving process. Lamrabatte was also active in martial arts. His trainer Mesut Cam shared an in memoriam message on Facebook. ‘We will miss you, Mourad. I always called you the Moroccan lion. That’s how you will always be for me too.’

As a football player, his last name was Besselink, later he changed it to Lamrabatte. The 31-year-old sportsman jumped on Thursday afternoon in front of his girlfriend and two young children from a cliff about 25 meters high on the Malgrats Islands. His girlfriend filmed the jump from a boat on her cell phone and watched it crash into rocks and then disappear into the sea.

Fanatic sportsman with heart in the right place

Lamrabatte was a well-known and fanatical sportsman in Arnhem and the surrounding area. In his youth he played for NEC, AGOVV, Go Ahead Eagles and Jong Vitesse. Lamrabatte wore the shirt of Vitesse during the 2010/2011 season, where he was part of the U23 team. He played football there under Gerry Hamstra from Groningen, now technical manager at Ajax, and also won the U23 cup that season. He played there with Davy Propper, Marco van Ginkel and Ismaïl Aisatti, among others.

After his career in football, the sportsman in Arnhem opted for a career as a kickboxer. There he built a name as a hard, passionate trainer with the heart in the right place. Mourad’s students remember him as a fanatic sportsman with his heart in the right place, writes his trainer.
