The cabinet reserves € 10 million for reconstruction in Turkey. This contribution is for the Turkish regions affected by the earthquakes and where many Syrian refugees are being received. The Netherlands will announce this this afternoon during a donor conference for Turkey and Syria in Brussels.
Minister Liesje Schreinemacher (Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation) announced this in a letter to the House of Representatives on Monday. During the donor conference, the international community will pledge support for the people in the affected areas in Turkey and Syria. The preliminary results of the so-called needs assessment presented, identifying what countries need most. The conference is led by the European Commission and Sweden.
Today, the Netherlands is also announcing the total amount available for emergency aid to Turkey and Syria: €49.7 million. This contribution includes the extra support for both countries that has been pledged in response to the earthquakes and the regular emergency aid deployment in Syria.
