The Netherlands must quickly restrict AI | Statement of the day

The CEO of online bank Bunq was imitated this week by criminals using AI. Actor Tom Hanks was also a victim of fake images: an insurance company pretended it had hired the actor to shoot a commercial. In reality, the commercial was made with the help of artificial intelligence.

The EU has long wanted stricter legislation to curb these types of scenes. The Netherlands also says it wants to take a lead in this. Yet there are still no rules or laws in our country that do anything against the misuse of AI.

While our country is working hard on stricter supervision in Europe, politicians are not yet doing this for the Netherlands itself. However, the drafting of European laws is not yet going very fast: it is expected that this will not be completed in the coming months, even though work has been going on since 2019.

What do you think, should legislation be introduced quickly to restrict artificial intelligence? Or is it not too bad and is waiting for European legislation a better option? Let us know by responding to the statement of the day:
