The Netherlands ensures the dream end of Baseball Week Haarlem

Thanks to a resounding victory on Curaçao, the Netherlands has won the Baseball Week Haarlem tonight. The Netherlands eventually won the final 6-1.

In the first four innings, people got on base sporadically. This was largely due to the strong pitching of Shairon Martis for the Netherlands and Ruderly Manuel for Curaçao. In the end, Curaçao’s resistance, which surprisingly made it to the final, was broken in the fifth inning. The Netherlands scored five runs and didn’t relinquish this lead in the remaining two innings.

No surprise

The Netherlands started the Baseball Week strong with two wins, but then lost three in a row. Nevertheless, according to assistant coach Tjerk Smeet, who replaced the corona-infected national coach Evert-Jan ‘t Hoen, the overall victory did not come as unexpected. “This was no surprise to us. We prepared ourselves well. The objective was the final and if you are in the final then you have to win it,” said Smeets after the final.

Tomorrow a report about the final of Baseball Week Haarlem will appear on this website.
