The number of new corona cases in the Netherlands is falling rapidly, the peak of the omikron wave has passed, but this is still not visible on the European corona map on Thursday. For the sixteenth week in a row, all provinces are in dark red, the highest warning level. A step down is still a long way off for the time being.
Friesland is the largest fire in the Netherlands. In the past two calendar weeks, 4974 out of every 100,000 inhabitants have tested positive there, or one in every twenty Frisians. That is 45 percent less than on last week’s overview. Friesland is in tenth place in the weekly ranking of the European health service ECDC.
Groningen and Drenthe also have a relatively large number of confirmed infections, although the number of positive tests is also falling there. Until now, the northern provinces had been fairly spared during the omikron wave.
less fiery
In the rest of Europe, the map is slightly less fiery. Thirteen of the 215 regions are red. The French Mayotte region is the only green one.
The European health service ECDC makes a map every Thursday about the state of the epidemic in Europe. All regions turn green, orange, red or dark red, depending on the number of positive tests and vaccination coverage. The new card covers the past two calendar weeks, the period from Monday 14 to Sunday 27 February.
