Today Minister Jetten for Climate and Energy and Minister Arifin of Energy and Minerals announced that they will work together to accelerate the energy transition in Indonesia. They announced this at the G20 climate and energy meetings in Bali, Indonesia. The cooperation with Indonesia focuses on knowledge exchange and support for concrete projects. For example, the Dutch Pondera and Indonesian state energy giant Pertamina recently concluded an agreement for the development of the first offshore wind farm in Indonesia. A ‘renewable energy training school and center’ will be jointly set up in Java at the end of this year. And current projects will be accelerated such as pilot projects for floating solar farms and support for Indonesia’s first thin film solar panel factory.

Minister Jetten for Climate and Energy: “80% of global emissions come from the twenty largest economies. There is therefore a joint responsibility to reduce this quickly. The transition to a clean and sustainable energy system makes a major contribution to this. I am very happy to be working with Indonesia on the energy transition. A lot is possible in Indonesia with, for example, solar and wind energy, something we have already gained a lot of experience in in the Netherlands and would like to use this in Indonesia.”

In addition to wind and solar energy, the countries will also expand the current cooperation to other areas, such as geothermal energy, hydrogen, energy storage, bioenergy, and energy efficiency. This will take place in the form of roundtables, among other things, with representatives from the public, private and academic sectors.

The partnership was confirmed today with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Denpassar in Bali, Indonesia.
