After disputes among neighbors, the situation in Kochhannstraße in Berlin-Friedrichshain escalated around midnight on Tuesday: the residents of the street heard a loud bang and saw shattering windows.
Two men had clashed in the evening for unknown reasons. One of the two then got an explosive-like object, probably a Polish firecracker that is not permitted in Germany. He put this on his opponent’s window sill.
The explosion shattered the windows and flew into the apartment and onto the sidewalk. The neighbor is said to have been in the ground floor apartment at the time.
Luckily no one was injured in the explosion.
Several residents called 911. The police came in large numbers and cordoned off the street because it was unclear whether and which explosives the perpetrator still had.
According to BZ information, the perpetrator should not be unknown to the police, which is why the SEK was alerted. The special forces stormed the apartment and overwhelmed the man. Nobody got hurt.
The perpetrator is now facing several charges, including causing an explosive explosion and attempting serious bodily harm.
