The three-part mini-drama The Vanishing Act, inspired by true events, is about an Australian by Melissa Caddick to an incredible-sounding story. The series can be seen on MTV Katsomo.
The startling events began when the Australian Securities and Exchange Commission began investigating Caddick’s activities in November 2020. It was suspected that Caddick had defrauded millions of his clients, including several of his friends and relatives, over an eight-year period.
When the commission finally raided Caddick’s lavish home, Caddick vanished like ashes in the wind. The case of the disappearance ended up being front-page news in Australia, and television broadcasts relentlessly followed the search for the woman.
The search did not end until February 2021, when a shoe with a foot inside was found nearly 500 kilometers from Caddick’s hometown. The suspense ended when DNA tests showed it was Caddick’s leg.
Although the discovery led to the end of the search for Caddick, the case remains a great mystery to many. It has not been confirmed whether Caddick was the victim of a homicide or committed suicide. Because of this, it has even been suspected that Caddick staged his own death. Even experts in criminology have not ruled out this theory.
Associate Professor of Criminology at Newcastle University Xanthe Mallett recently commented on what happened in the Australian program Weekend Sunrise with surprising words.
– Since it is a leg, there is a possibility that the person is not dead. You can survive even without your leg, Mallet stated.
To this day, no other body parts have been found.
