We have long said that David Fincher had found a way to portray Evil in the contemporary world. She has done it since his debut in “Alien 3”in all possible tones, although his best films are “Zodiac” and “The partner networkl”, coincidentally based on real events.
“The murderer“, which is absolutely reminiscent of the extraordinary Samurai What did Alain Delon under the direction of Jean-Pierre Melville or the bombastic character based on him by Chow Yun-fat in John Woo’s version, is a kind of catalog of Fincher’s style, from the glaucous light to the non-empathetic character; from the very good action scenes to the idea of instability of the world that appears in each of the sequences.
Everything works, and works very well, especially the emotionless look of Fassbender (a specialist in elegant psychopaths, on the other hand) that generates this instability: anything can happen but it seems that destiny is ineluctable (although the final parliament denies this). A great exercise in coherently professional style.
