The municipality of Hoogeveen has started preparations for moving the trees on Hoofdstraat Zuid. The mood lighting is currently being removed or temporarily disconnected.
The appearance of Hoofdstraat-Zuid no longer fits in with the rest of the center. The redevelopment of Hoofdstraat is currently entering its final phase. To achieve this, the trees, which are currently still in the existing planters, must be moved to another temporary location.
Hoogeveen has been renovating the entire Hoofdstraat since 2018. This happens in different phases. The first two phases (Raadhuisstraat to the cascade) were completed first and now the final phase has begun, the southern part.
The municipality can obtain more than 2.65 million euros extra from the Regional Cities Fund for its own investment. This fund is used to adapt or improve alleys and squares, which the municipality is also working on.
The plans are included in the 2024 framework memorandum.
