The municipality of Eemsdelta will face stumbling blocks in ownership and management

The Stumbling Stones Appingedam Foundation, the Stumbling Stones Termunten Working Group, the Garrelsweer History Foundation and the Middelstum Historical Association transfer ownership and management of the Stumbling Stones (Stolpersteine) to the municipality of Eemsdelta.

In the period 2014-2021, these four organizations have ensured that stumbling stones have been placed in the public space of Appingedam, Borgsweer, Garrelsweer, Middelstum, Termunterzijl and Woldendorp. Now that this has been completed, the ownership and management of this will be transferred to the municipality at their request. The annual maintenance of the stumbling stones is done by these four parties.

Lasting memory

Alderman Meindert Joostens: “With this transfer we guarantee the preservation and management of all stumbling stones within our municipality for the future. That is important, because the stumbling stones remind us of the Jewish inhabitants of Eemsdelta who died during the Second World War”.

The municipality and the parties involved will sign the agreements in which the transfer of ownership and management are laid down on Tuesday 11 July at 4 p.m. in the Synagogue Appingedam.
