From now on, the municipality of Assen wants to communicate more clearly in understandable language. The municipality regularly encounters the fact that information about, for example, construction work or permit processes is not easily written down, which means that residents do not understand it.
The initiative comes from the national platform User Central. In addition to the municipality of Assen, several municipalities have joined the Direct Duidelijk Deal. According to the municipality, the initiative has already had an effect. More than fifty unclear letters have already been rewritten in recent months.
In the coming year, the municipality will continue to improve the language used to inform citizens. For example, the municipality has trained writing coaches who help employees with comprehensible writing. Employees also receive training to write understandable texts.
