The municipality of Amsterdam donates one euro per inhabitant for Morocco earthquake victims

The municipality of Amsterdam has just announced that it will donate one euro per resident of the city to the victims of the earthquake in Morocco. She does this together with the municipality of Rotterdam. In total, this means that Amsterdam donates 919,000 euros and Rotterdam 665,000 euros.

Today the Moroccan flag flew at half-mast at the town hall to express sympathy for the victims of the earthquake and their loved ones. The municipality is joining forces with the municipality of Rotterdam, where the Moroccan flag was also flying at half-mast today.

“This horrible disaster leaves a hole in the lives of so many. Our thoughts are with those affected, their loved ones and all those people who are still in fear and uncertainty about the safety of their loved ones, in Morocco and in the Netherlands,” said Mayor Halsema and Aboutaleb.

Earlier today went AT5 took to the street and spoke to some Moroccan Amsterdammers after last night’s news. “No words for it”, “Just tears in my eyes” and “Terrible” were some of the reactions. The impact of the disaster is still difficult for the Moroccan community to comprehend.
