The most popular shopping streets in Germany are in Munich

DÜSSELDORF (dpa-AFX) – The most heavily frequented shopping streets in Germany are in Munich. This emerges from a study by the service provider Hystreet, which measures the number of pedestrians in German city centers. Neuhauser Strasse will take first place in the ranking in 2023 with 28.62 million visitors, which recorded an increase of almost 12 percent compared to the previous year.

Kaufingerstrasse (28.56 million visitors), which was the front runner in 2022, is now only in second place. The number of visitors there has fallen by seven percent. Frankfurt’s Zeil remains in third place with 23.3 million measured passers-by, followed by Georgstrasse in Hanover (22.23 million) and Schildergasse in Cologne (21.74 million). In sixth place is Theatinerstrasse (17.04 million), another shopping street in Munich.

Seventh place in the ranking is occupied by Westenhellweg in Dortmund (16.04 million), ahead of Hohe Straße in Cologne (15.79 million), which, at 15 percent, has the highest increase compared to the previous year among the most visited shopping streets nationwide. According to the study, the number of visitors in 2023 increased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous year, when the numbers were at a low level due to the pandemic. The top 10 shopping miles recorded a total of 203.62 million passers-by last year.

According to its own information, Hystreet has installed laser scanners at 288 locations in 105 cities that count passers-by fully automatically around the clock, all year round.
