After several failed attempts, the launch of the rocket from the El Arenisillo base has passed without mishap

The Miura 1, the first rocket designed and manufactured in Spain and one of the first European vehicles of this type designed to be reusable, successfully took off after 2 in the morning. After several failed attempts, the new launch of this mission took place around 2:15 a.m. this Saturday, October 7, from the El Arenisillo space base (Huelva) and It could be followed live on all digital platforms.

As the promoters of this project enthusiastically explain, the company PLD Spacethe flight of Miura 1 represents a turning point for the Spanish aerospace industry. Above all because it is the first time in history that Spain has a own vehicle to travel to space. Right now there are only nine countries with direct access to space. After the launch of this mission, Spain has become the tenth state with the capacity to travel to the stratosphere.

The first Spanish rocket measures about 12 meters high and has been designed to take off, rise to more than 150 kilometers in altitude and then land safely on the surface of the sea. On this journey, lasting about 12 minutes, the vehicle will be able to transport up to 100 kilograms of materials to space to perform scientific experiments in microgravity conditions. In this first technical flight, Miura 1 does not have any experiments on board since, as explained by the company, the objective of the mission is to test the technical capabilities of the rocket.

The creators of this project affirm that the first steps of Miura 1 will become a great learning experience to continue perfecting future generations of Spanish rockets. If all goes well, in fact, in 2025 Spain could have a new generation rocket successor to the current Miura.
