Kelvin Kiptum has died in a car accident in his home area.

Sunday got a sad ending when news came from Kenya of the reigning ME man in the marathon, By Kelvin Kiptumof death.
Kiptum was on his way with his coach Gervais Hakizimana with the runner’s hometown from Eldoret to Kaptagati when the car carrying them had an accident.
According to Kenyan sources, both died at the scene of the accident.
Kiptum was only 24 years old, and the world of athletics was waiting for him to become the first marathon runner under two hours. Last year, he stopped the clocks on the king’s journey already at 2:00.35.
The fact that he only managed to run three official marathons said a lot about Kiptum’s development. He already made a debutant ME in Valencia (2:01.53) in December 2022, won the London Marathon 2023 (2:01.25) and broke the distance’s ME result in Chicago.
Kiptum would have been a clear gold medal favorite at the Paris Summer Olympics as well.
