The mayor of Munich demanded that Gergiev speak out about the events in Ukraine

Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter called on conductor Valery Gergiev, who leads the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, to distance himself from the “cruel war of aggression” against Ukraine.

“If Valery Gergiev does not make his position clear by Monday, he will not be able to remain the principal conductor of our Philharmonic,” Reiter stressed.

Previously a similar requirement for a Russian conductor put forward the Milanese theatre “La Scala”, where, under the leadership of Gergiev, performances of the opera “The Queen of Spades” should take place.

Earlier, the concert hall Carnegie Hall in New York, without making any demands, canceled the performances of Gergiev and pianist Denis Matsuev in the upcoming concerts.

Russian special military operation Ukraine continues the second day. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reports on the development of the offensive forces of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR) on the position of the army of Ukraine with Russian fire support. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation emphasizes that nothing threatens Ukrainian cities. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, the task of the special operation is the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine.
