The Massi-Tactic UCI Women’s Teamfrom Torroella de Montgrí (Girona), will begin its fourth season in the world elite of women’s road cycling with a team of 13 cyclists that mixes young runners from home with international ones and with the goal for 2022 of taking a step forward. The first women’s team of the Baix Ter Cycling Club continues under the direction of Manel Gonzalo and Angel Gonzalez and will start the season as a continental team on February 6 in Valencia (Return to the Valencian Community). The objective of the club is that the project continues to grow. The 2022 season will last eight months, until September, and they will compete in thirty national and international races, some UCI World Tour, the first level, for Italy, Belgium, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and throughout Spain. La Strade Bianche, Tour of Flanders, Itzula, Durango-Durango, Tour de France, La Vuelta a Madrid and La Vuelta a Burgos are some of the World Tour events where they will participate.
The club budget is €130,000, away from the World Tour teams. Sergi Güell, president of CC Baix Ter, explains that “we are working very hard so that the runners can dedicate themselves exclusively to cycling in the future, but the goal this year is to take another step forward and grow, taking advantage of the fact that we have an international team consolidated. We want to dispute the highest level races face to face“.
Last season, as a UCI Continental category team, they participated in tests of the highest division, World Tour, where they faced off against the best teams in the world, added podiums in international races in Europe and were proclaimed team and individual champions of the Spanish Cup and the Catalan Cup.
