The Mars Volta and At The Drive-In: Documentary Coming in October

How do Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López work together? The film will show it.

A documentary about The Mars Volta and At The Drive-In is scheduled to be released in October 2023. The title: “Omar And Cedric: If This Ever Gets Weird.” The work is intended to shed more light on the relationship between the two band members Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. A first trailer can now be seen.

The Mars Volta were formed by the duo in 2001 after their previous band, At The Drive-In, first broke up. Both bands split several times over the years – most recently in 2013, when The Mars Volta split up to give Rodríguez-López more time to work on other projects. Their reunion and the release of the self-titled studio album THE MARS VOLTA followed in 2022.

The documentary tells the story of both groups largely through footage filmed by Rodríguez-López over the years. The official description of the documentary reads: “A film that depicts the artistic and personal relationship between two groundbreaking artists, Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala (At The Drive-In/The Mars Volta), almost exclusively, with hundreds of hours of footage from the last 40 years shot by Omar.”

The film is scheduled to debut at the Raindance Film Festival in the UK on October 28, 2023. When and how the work can then be viewed in this country is currently not known.
