The Marker Wadden: a natural paradise for fish and birds or a depot with dirty junk?

Almost without exception, visitors to the Marker Wadden say: Beautiful! The concept is called ‘Building with nature’: the construction of these natural islands with silt, sand and clay from the Markermeer. But ‘second-hand’ soil flows from elsewhere have also been used. “Do you like it?” asks Annemieke van Straaten. “I don’t like it. To me, the Marker Wadden are a dredging depot filled with dirty junk.”
