John Hinckley Jr. is the name of the man who tried to shoot the then US President Ronald Reagan in 1981. Now the 66-year-old wrote on Twitter that he wanted to start a band and was looking for members.
Hinckley wrote on Twitter that he wanted to start a band and was looking for a guitarist, bassist and drummer. If you are seriously interested, you can send an application to his address.
In 1981, the man tried to shoot President Reagan to impress actress Jodie Foster, whom he had had a crush on since the movie Taxi Driver. Four people were injured in the shooting. The President also suffered an injury – in the chest from a ricochet. Hinckley was acquitted of 13 charges in 1982 because he was not mentally responsible.
Until 2016, Hinckley lived in psychiatric custody and was released after a trial because the judges believed he no longer posed a danger to himself or others.
After his release, he rediscovered the interest in music he had pursued since he was a young man and began posting music online anonymously. In October 2020, a court ruled that Hinckley could now publish art of any kind under his full name. In the meantime he even founded his own label Emporia Records and a YouTube channel, on which he has now uploaded 26 of his own songs.
Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace was among the first to respond to Hinckley’s request. “I think you should let me play the bass. I’m pretty good on bass and very focused on the music,” Grace wrote sarcastically.
