This Wednesday, the Mossos d’Esquadra arrested a man in his 30s for the death of another 57-year-old man on September 13 on Ciutat de Granada street in the Poblenou neighborhood of Barcelona. The confrontation between the two occurred, according to the first versions, after the aggressor stole the victim’s phone and he chased and caught up with him. The police investigation, however, has ruled out this point, according to police sources consulted by El Periódico, and points to a traffic discussion.

The attacker and the victim got into a violent fight that ended with the former seriously beating the latter, leaving him in critical condition. The injured man was rushed to the hospital, where he ended up dying a few days later. The episode, which generated social alarm due to the gratuitousness of the violence used by the alleged thief, did not however begin with a robbery, police sources now clarify.
The investigation by the homicide group of the Barcelona Criminal Investigation Area has concluded that the aggressor had not stolen the victim’s phone. The person arrested this Wednesday is also not a person with a record of violent robbery crimes.
