This is followed by the country of South Korea, which announced the construction of the first floating city in April. Number two ends up outside the capital of the Maldives.
The city is designed in a shape that resembles brain coral and consists of 5000 separate, floating units. This will house schools, shops, restaurants and houses, with channels in between. And the city must withstand hurricanes. In total, the city will soon be home to about 20,000 inhabitants.
The first residents will be able to move into their floating house in early 2024. The city should be ready in 2027.
Dutch designer
The Dutch owner of the architectural firm that designed the city, Koen Olthuis, told the New York Post: “Floating developments take real estate developments beyond the waterfront, which will transform our cities, similar to the introduction of high-rise buildings a century ago. ”
Some of the houses will soon be painted in rainbow colors to attract the locals. The houses have balconies overlooking the sea. Prices vary between 142 thousand euros for a studio and 237 thousand for a family house, according to Olthuis.
