The Magath plan for the Hertha training camp

The first victory is a done deal, now the next steps for Hertha in the relegation battle will follow in the four-day training camp.

Hertha coach Felix Magath (68) jetted to Harsewinkel (NRW) with his boys on Tuesday, wanting to prepare the team there for the difficult game in Leverkusen on Saturday. BZ knows what Magic-Magath is up to, what things he has practiced and how he wants to pack the players.

► He conducts individual and group discussions. The rescuer coach wants to get to know the players even better in one-on-one meetings, work out their strengths and minimize or eliminate weaknesses. In team briefings he wants to find out more about the team spirit, possible leaders on the field and in the dressing room, so that responsibility can be transferred to the right players.

Magath has the basics of football practiced in all units. For example, every professional should be able to safely accept the ball and pass it quickly. In Magath’s opinion, however, there are general deficits in German football.

Therefore, he will surprise all players that from now on the absolute basics are part of everyday training again. With simple exercises, the players should gain security and self-confidence. Because that’s exactly what Magath relies on in the fight for relegation.

► The game philosophy should be internalized. Magath wants the team to be compact in defence, with perfect gaps between defence, midfield and attack. Therefore, everyone is given a very specific position-related task that they have to fulfill. The requirement: Everyone has to participate, otherwise the whole team will get into trouble. Magath will address this on a daily basis.

He relied on a regular formation. In the seven upcoming finals, the processes must be reliable, everyone must be able to rely on their neighbor. The Fuchs coach wants to achieve this by primarily relying on experienced players, avoiding experiments and only changing the starting eleven selectively, if possible.

These are Magath’s measures for staying in the Bundesliga!
