The looks of women that enhance Buenos Aires

Several well-known mural and sculpture artists were summoned to create various works in the Abasto neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The interventions are part of the urban transformation project that contemplates the creation of a biocultural corridor. The initiative, promoted by el Ministry of Culture of the Cityhas the support of AkzoNobel and its brand of paints Alba within the framework of its global program “I came to the color”.

The integral project arose from the collaborative work with different artists from the neighborhood that facilitated a diagnosis with the proposals made by neighbors, institutions and cultural spaces of Abasto. The central objective is to concentrate cultural activities in a corridor that will be characterized by the incorporation of works of art made by Argentine artists with a consolidated track record in contemporary art.

The muralists Silvia Dotta and Mabel Vicentef They carried out a mural on the wall of the COTO supermarket in Guardia Vieja and Agüero. for his partIsol Misenta He worked on the façade of School No. 6 Gral. Martín Rodríguez, located in Anchorena between Valentín Gómez and Av. Corrientes. the specialist Maria Luque carried out participatory workshops with older adults in the cultural spacel Almabasto and in notable bars The symbol Y Rome Bar. The muralists were joined in the initiative by the sculptor silvina babich who worked on three sculptures that will be exhibited on cultural spaces located in emblematic corners of the neighborhood. The first work, of important dimensions and proceeded with natural materials such as wicker, is exhibited in the space the thrush. The other two sculptures have the same characteristics: one of them was placed on the notable Roma del Abasto bar (on the corner of Anchorena and San Luis) and the other will be placed in the coming weeks in a cultural space in the neighborhood.

According to the team of Public Space and Urban Hygiene of the City, the installation of light parades along three blocks of the Agüero corridor (between Av. Corrientes and Juan D. Perón) carried out with flexible neon-type led tubes is also contemplated. There, a poem by the artist will be embodied Fernando Noy created for this project and dedicated to the Abasto neighborhood.

“El Abasto is a neighborhood recognized for its vast and rich cultural offer. I emphasize that women artists are protagonists of this initiative and can capture the identity of the neighborhood on murals. For this reason, we continue working to promote this pole of art and culture based on a continuous link with the referents of the area”, explained the Minister of Culture of the City, Enrique Avogadro.
