The long mining accident at Heiligensee

By Oliver Ohmann

In August 2022, the BZ reported on the mine accident of pensioner Peter Glage (85) from Heiligensee. The Reinickendorf district office promised support. Nothing happened. Pit and misfortune are still there.

Peter Glage (a qualified engineer and architect) planned the construction of a winter garden with a basement on his property. He was born in the house 85 years ago and his wife moved in 60 years ago. Glage applied for a building permit. Until then, he only disposed of rubble that his father had buried near the house in 1945.

The resulting pit was seen by an official from the building inspectorate. He already considered it to be the excavation pit, i.e. an unauthorized construction process, and ordered an immediate halt to construction and a fine of 335.30 euros.

But City Councilor Korinna Stephan (48, Greens) said after an on-site visit: “All employees will continue to support Mr. Glage in implementing his building project.”

Exactly the opposite happened, explains Glage. “I kept getting new editions. Suddenly I was supposed to submit construction drawings on a scale of 1:100 of the house and the neighboring house, along with an official survey plan. That alone would cost us 3500 euros.

Glage repeatedly asked the city councilor in writing for a personal interview. “No response,” says the pensioner. “Instead, I received a visit from three gentlemen.” They explained that they were from the district office. “I thought of course from the construction department.”

Glage: “During the conversation, it turned out that it was a psychiatrist from the health department with assistants.” He makes it clear: “We intend to build a winter garden, not to kill ourselves! We are Christians.”

The city councilor insists on “verifiable documents” that are not available to the authorities. Korinna Stephan on BZ request: “Mr. Glage is widely supported by his colleagues with the intensity already described in August.”
