The Lions’ World Cup hero is filing for divorce

Former goalkeeper Petri Vehanen, who moved to Germany, filed for divorce with his wife.

In 2011, the Lions won the second World Cup gold in their history and played a long career in Europe Petri Vehanen has applied Teija– divorce with his wife.

The application for resignation has already been submitted to the Satakunta District Court during the early spring.

The 2011 world champion has worked for the last two hockey seasons in the German premier league team Adler Mannheim as a goalie coach. Vehanen played the last four seasons of his career in Berlin between 2014 and 2018.

In between, he managed to coach Rauma Luko’s juniors and the youth national team in his hometown. He was also part of the coaching team of Luko’s representative team in the spring of 2021, when the people of Rauma celebrated the Finnish championship.

In Finland, Vehanen represented only Lukko at the SM league level in a total of more than 400 matches. In autumn 2019, the Rauma team froze the club icon’s jersey on the roof of their home hall in Äijänsuo.

Vehanen did not play in North America during his career, but in Europe the man was known as a very reliable puck stopper for a decade. In his first season in the KHL in 2010, he won the championship as the league’s best goalkeeper. In addition to Russia and Germany, he also experienced the Czech, Italian, Swedish and Norwegian hockey leagues.

In Leijon, Vehanen saved in four World Cup tournaments. In 2011, he was Finland’s number one goalkeeper and saved between the posts when Finland memorably beat Sweden 6–1 in the final.

Vehasi has two daughters together who are over 12 years old.

Vehanen is remembered as the golden hero of the Lions. JARNO JUTI
