The Libertines unveiled new songs from their album ALL QUIET ON THE EASTERN ESPLANADE, due out on March 8, at intimate concerts in Margate over the weekend (December 9th and 10th).
500 people fit into the Lido Cliff Bar in Margate, England, where The Libertines’ gigs took place on December 9th and 10th. The 18-song setlist included the live premieres of the previously released singles “Run Run Run” and “Night Of The Hunter”. But other, previously unreleased pieces from the album were also presented live at the shows – namely “Oh Shit”, “Mustang”, “Man With The Melody”, “Merry Old England” and “I Have A Friend”.

The Libertines complete cycle
The new LP was recorded by Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, Gary Powell and John Hassall at the Albion Rooms in Margate. The group has owned the establishment for some time and says they recorded the new material in four weeks in their own hotel, bar and studio. The new songs should sound different than a lot of what they have written before. The name of the LP is a reference to the address of the band’s hotel and their enduring love for Erich Maria Remarque’s anti-war novel Nothing New on the West (the new German film adaptation of which recently won several Oscars).
Singer Pete Doherty explained that the group found a “moment of rare peace” during recording, according to the Independent. He added: “I feel like we’ve completed a kind of cycle as a band, and now we can finally add these songs to the setlist because we’ve got some bangers.” At the same time, the once scandalous musician held out hope for a sequel further recordings.
ALL QUIET ON THE EASTERN ESPLANADE will be released on March 8, 2024. The record is The Libertines’ first collection of new songs in eight years. It will contain eleven tracks.
