The Libertines are actually releasing a new album

Pete Doherty and Carl Barat explain that All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade was written in a moment of rare peace and brought the band closer together.

The Libertines have announced a new studio record. All Quiet On The Eastern Esplanade will be released on March 8, 2024 and is the first collection of new songs since 2015’s Anthems for Doomed Youth.

The album will contain 11 songs, including the opener “Run Run Run”, which was released as a single on Friday (October 13th) and can be heard here.

The LP was recorded by Pete Doherty, Carl Barat, Gary Powell and John Hassall at the Albion Rooms in Margate. The group has owned the establishment for some time and says they recorded the new material in four weeks in their own hotel, bar and studio. The new songs should sound different than a lot of what they have written before.

The name of the LP is a reference to the address of the band’s hotel and their enduring love for Erich Maria Remarque’s anti-war novel Nothing New on the West (the new German film adaptation of which recently won several Oscars).

Libertines complete cycle

Singer Pete Doherty explained that the group found a “moment of rare peace” during recording, according to the Independent. He added: “I feel like we’ve completed a kind of cycle as a band, and now we can finally add these songs to the setlist because we’ve got some bangers.” At the same time, the once scandalous musician held out hope for a sequel further recordings.

Guitarist Barat summarized the chaotic past and where the Libertines are now: “Our first record was born out of panic and disbelief that we were even allowed to be in a studio; the second was born of total discord and misery; the third from the will to complexity; “This one now feels like we were all in the same place and time zone and we really connected.”
