It is impossible to predict what the future will bring. Ideally, however, it will be a combination of what we have already learned and what we are looking forward to. Levi’s® implements this for its spring/summer 2022 collection: On the one hand, the collection stands for a mixture of the joy of finally being able to spend time with others again and, on the other hand, for holding on to the cosiness that a quiet day deserves home promises.
These feelings manifest themselves in a mix of soft, comfortable styles, silhouettes and fabrics, paired with that kind of cultivated nonchalance that doesn’t look out of place on the street. Bursting with fun and colourfulness, the upbeat and forward-thinking collection is inspired by the laid-back, expressive style of the 1970s, yet viewed from a 90s perspective. The pieces are a little looser, a little roomier and have a touch more attitude – while always staying true to the Levi’s® style.

This season’s women’s fashion is all about the creation of smart and combined casual pieces that embody both home comfort and lively street style. While the tops are getting a little shorter and simpler, trousers are now wider and more airy and are thus moving away from the “skin-tight rule” that the baggy look already had in the 90s. After a long phase of staying at home, in spring 2022 we are now doing everything we can to take the comfortable home style outside. In our high-contrast approach, the boundaries between classic aesthetics and free self-expression become blurred.
And while we’re on the subject of ’90s inspiration, the biggest news in this season’s Levi’s® women’s collection is the new Levi’s® 501® 90s. With a looser fit through the bottom and leg, the 501® 90s offers a wider silhouette than the classic 501® without crossing the line into baggy style. Sitting just below the waist, it also looks very stylish with more room to move that can be increased or decreased as you like. The pants come in a variety of washes that emulate the worn-in look of vintage pieces of the era—basically, a real 501®s favorite from the era when casual equaled cool.
Spring ’22 also brings more variants of the Levi’s® Red Tab Sweats for men and women – the ultimate loungewear style for the home office, which can be converted into a casual look for outdoors in no time at all. Pieces are made from ultra soft terry cloth and have been both fabric and piece dyed. The oversize silhouette offers stylish nonchalance and maximum comfort.
Men’s
Spring 2022 for men is about finding new ways to combine men’s clothing and functional clothing, with the focus on looser fits and wider silhouettes. The inspiration for this comes from the classic designs of the 1980s and 1990s, where larger tops are combined with 501® jeans or even more casual baggy pants. Streetwear influence is stretched even further here. The result is a look and fit that brings the past back to life in a new and stylish creation for the present.
An important factor of the men’s collection is its versatility: the spectrum ranges from jeans to the popular Levi’s® XX chinos to an extended range of Levi’s® Red Tab sweats. Alongside the classic Levi’s® 501® and the 501® ’93, this season’s men’s 501® Taper is re-launched, including all the elements of the 501® except for the tapered leg. The denim washes are also based on the 80s and 90s with their various light indigo tones and make the jeans appear like your old favorite pants.
Beyond the jeans, the Levi’s® XX Chino expands its look and adds to its ranks a Slim Taper, Standard Taper, Relaxed Taper and Classic Straight – all garment-dyed so they only look better with age. It’s the most versatile and stylish option – not to mention its comfort factor – for those who feel at home somewhere between jeans and sweatpants. And while we’re on the subject of jogging pants, Levi’s® Red Tab Sweats not only ensure maximum comfort, but also maximum flexibility in clothing choice with their versatile selection of crewnecks, hoodies and pants, including the new jogging bottoms and shorts with open legs.
Levi’s® Fresh
In its sustainability efforts, Levi’s® now relies primarily on the use of plant-based dyes and dyeing techniques. This is why Levi’s® is exploring the use of natural dyes this season with the new Levi’s® Fresh collection. Inspired by the 1970s Levi’s® Fresh Produce collection, Levi’s® Fresh is a range of different tops, pants and accessories featuring natural dyes applied with new dyeing techniques to create vibrant and rich tones of peach, lavender, pink and yellow to achieve. All in a mix of fabric and piece-dyed pieces.
