Lego withdraws from Russia after maintaining its activity since the invasion of Ukraine
The Danish toy company has laid off most of its Moscow workforce
Lego, the Danish toy-making giant, has stated that will stop operating in Russia indefinitely due to “continuing and extensive disruption” (we assume that of raw materials). The firm stopped delivering products to Russia in March following the invasion of Ukraine, but its stores remained open as most rival retailers pulled out.
Lego announced that it would now end its association with Inventive Retail Groupwhich runs 81 stores on behalf of Lego. He did not mention the invasion of Ukraine for withdrawing from Russia. A Lego spokeswoman stated: “When the Lego Group stopped shipments to Russia in early March, we also suspended all business activity and put almost all of our employees on extended leave.”
The company also said it is laying off most of its Moscow-based team. and “provided 70 employees with financial packages to support them as they seek new opportunities.” Lego is one of the few Western brands that remained in Russia after other big companies closed their stores following the Kremlin’s attack on Ukraine that was launched on February 24.
