The legend of the narrator, known even to Finns, retires – Did the career stretch too long?

Martin Tyler, known for his Aguero screams and console games, is leaving Sky Sports after more than 30 years.

Martin Tyler may not be familiar with his looks, but his voice is recognized around the world. PDO

British football commentator Martin Tyler, 77, has decided to quit working for Sky Sports. The man worked for the channel for more than 30 years and commented on thousands of matches during his career.

The reason for the departure is quite embarrassing, as the legendary commentator is, according to the Daily Mail, one more victim in Sky’s austerity talks. Sky is said to be halving its football reporting, which also includes commentators.

Tyler was the channel’s number one soccer commentator for a long time. He often got to commentate in the most important matches of the season, especially in the Sunday rounds.

One of the most memorable moments happened in the spring of 2012 in the last round of the Premier League. He was vocal when Manchester City won the title Sergio Aguero with a last minute goal.

– I Swear you’ll never see anything like this ever again! So watch it, drink it in, Tyler beamed at the historic moment.

The Brit’s voice has also echoed in the homes of many Finns, because he was a football player Fifa chief reporter 2005–2020. The world’s most purchased sports game does not have a Finnish narration, so the game offered Tyler by default.

Tyler reported a lot of international matches. His voice was also used in Australia and the United States. Before moving to Sky, Tyler worked for, among others, the BBC.

When Sky Sports announced Tyler’s retirement, judging by the content of the comments section, many people saw this as good news. There were also enough defenders.

– He is a legend, but last year it seemed that his interest in important moments was no longer at the level of today’s requirements, one user commented on Twitter.

– Finally and finally, the other answered.

– In its best days, top, but a few years have passed since then, the third continued.
