A football legend Sven-Göran “Svennis” Eriksson, 75, has cancer. He told about it In an interview with the Swedish public broadcasting company.
Eriksson has about a year to live.
– Everyone understands that I have a disease that knows no good. Everyone thought it was cancer. That’s it. I will fight as long as I can. In the best case, I have a year, says Eriksson.
Eriksson played himself in the 1970s, but had a long and successful career as a coach. He coached England between 2001 and 2006 and was the team’s first foreign head coach.
The Swede has also piloted the national teams of Mexico, the Philippines and the Ivory Coast.
Eriksson has worked for club teams such as Manchester City, Benfica, Roma, Fiorentina and Sampdoria. He has coached in a total of ten different countries. Eriksson led IFK Gothenburg to the UEFA Cup victory in 1982.
At the beginning of last year, Karlstad FK announced that Eriksson was taking time off from his position as sports director due to illness.
– This is of course a huge setback, but I try to focus on positive things, says Eriksson.
