Zapping in a Viennese hotel room I was suddenly treated to the leader of Bauer sucht Frau. It was fantastic, it looked like a Milka commercial. Only alpine meadows, where rustic fences were stepped, laughing in the sun with a mountain top behind it. It was also striking that almost all farmers (and one farmer’s wife) wore traditional costumes. During the episode they were wearing a T-shirt again, but apparently it is normal to put on a Lederhosen and an Austrian jacket for your official presentation. Very traditional, and therefore all the more refreshing that the Austrian Yvon Jaspers is a woman of color (again in dirndl).
I didn’t see an inverted flag anywhere – that would have little effect on Austria’s either. Later I read that Austria has been investing in organic farmers since the 1990s, with great success. So maybe I saw here genuinely satisfied farmers, without worries, just looking for a wife.
