The Last Will according to Jaap van der Haar. ‘I don’t want to impose anything on anyone, but I do want to be able to decide for myself whether or not to do something’

The Euthanasia Act came into effect in 2002. But twenty years later, it is still not self-evident that a request to end one’s own life will be honored, because ‘acting to end life’ remains a criminal offense in principle. The 70-year-old Jaap van der Haar, former alderman of Meppel, argues for amendment of the law. He believes that everyone should be able to decide for themselves about a voluntary end of life.
