ci thought King Charles and Prince William – son and grandson – to plant the last tree for Queen Elizabeth. And they did it with great emotion in the gardens of Sandringham, the royal residence of the Windsors, in the places where they used to accompany the monarch on her Christmas walks. And the maple they have chosen now marks the end of an initiative greens which exceeded all expectations of success.
Three million trees for Queen Elizabeth
Among all the events of her Platinum Jubilee, celebrated in June 2022, three months before her death, Queen Elizabeth had not hidden her predilection for the Queen’s Green Canopyan initiative launched in 2021 and that he had urged schools, businesses and communities to plant a million trees.
Upon the queen’s death last September, the initiative was extended to allow subjects to further commemorate Elizabeth II. And in recent weeks, the number of trees planted has surpassed three million, as well as leading to the creation of about thirty new urban gardens and the training of 70 young people in various professions greens.

Queen Elizabeth’s commitment to the environment
The project, Carlo continued, was set up not just to celebrate the long reign – 70 years – of the queenbut also to help protect the environment: “Simple, practical and positive gestures can make a big difference” commented the king, underlining the importance of trees in removing pollutants in the air, in preventing flooding and erosion of the land, as well as increasing the local fauna.
