The Government of the Canary Islands requests maximum citizen collaboration for evacuations
The fire has affected 4,675 affected hectares according to NASA satellite perimeter
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, valued tonight the evolution of the forest fire registered at dawn this Saturday in the area of El Pinar in the municipality of Puntagorda, on La Palma, and made a call for citizen collaboration to cooperate in evacuation tasks in the areas indicated by the direction of the fire and attend at all times to the notices of the official channels.
Throughout the day a total of 11 air resources, among them a FOCA seaplane, which arrived this afternoon from Malaga and was able to make the first downloads in the affected areas. Right now, a second FOCA seaplane is moving that will arrive at the Gando air base this morning and will join the extinction work tomorrow.
Until now A total of 4,255 people have been evacuated from the municipalities of Tijarafe and Puntagorda, according to the census and at the moment there are more than a hundred people sheltered, mostly in the municipal pavilion of Los Llanos and assisted by the Red Cross. The areas evacuated so far are the upper part of the LP-1 from the Fayal area to the Time Tower, the lower part of the LP-1 from the Fayal to the Barranco de Jurado, including the towns of Tijarafe, the area from the Hacienda del Cura, the facilities of Roque de Los Muchachos and the municipality of Puntagorda. The affected area is 4675 hectares, according to NASA satellite perimeter.
A device of 400 troops
The president of the Canary Islands maintained that During the afternoon the evolution of the fire has slowed down and it is still out of control. In this context, he highlighted the work of the device that has been working since early Saturday morning to extinguish the fire, made up of 400 troops, and emphasized the favorable meteorological evolution at the moment, due to a drop in temperatures, an increase in Humidity since the wind forecasts have not been met for now. However, throughout the night the ground media will continue working on the tasks of extinguishing the fire.
