One of the most anticipated documentaries of the spring will be released this Friday, when it will premiere JVG Movie: Years have been a breeze. The documentary drills into the history of the JVG duo, which has become a phenomenon in Finnish rap music.

The band consists of Jare (Jare Joakim Brand) and VilleGalle (Ville-Petteri Galle). Their careers took off like a rocket in the spring of 2011 after the duo’s hit song At the wedding rose to the top of playlists.

The film is compiled from video footage filmed over ten years, showcasing tumultuous moments in the back rooms of clubs and the brutality of tour life. Artists who have been in contact with the band, such as Saint, Cheek and Sini Sabotage.

The documentary has been directed and written by Miika Särmäkari, who is the former editor – in – chief of Basso Media. This is his first full-length film.

– JVG is a significant band that I have seen really up close. They are easy-going subjects in the documentary because they gave free rein. They are not as accurate about their own image, Särmäkari says in an interview with Iltalehti.

The main stars of the film also say they were waiting for the film.

– The dudes have made a great film, genuine and honest, VilleGalle describes his first thoughts.

– A lot of good memories come to mind when you look at this. Lots of different emotions as well, Jare continues.

Brothers

One of the most interesting points in the film is about VilleGallen and his little brother Mäk Gälis (Joonas Galle). Joonas served as JVG’s driver and assistant in the early days of the band. Later, he was also able to advance in his own music career.

However, popularity had its downsides.

The situation progressed to the point where the brothers were completely broken. The documentary shows the point where the duo drift into a handcuff. The shards fly and the crying VilleGalle ends up in the back room crying as he plans to hack his little brother.

Indeed, the artist admits that watching the matter on the big screen is no easy task.

– Life is like that sometimes. My brother and I have been twisting since we were young. There have been such situations in between, VilleGalle sums up.

What is the distance between the brothers today?

– Actually, really good ones. We’ve both grown up and are able to watch those years with a smile.

Goodbye?

The duo’s journey in the music business has been long and winding. There are several awards and one sold-out gig at Hartwall Arena (now Helsinki Hall).

The men assure that the upcoming film is not a farewell message to fans.

– It’s been a lot done and seen, but people still seem to like our muse when we put it in the yard and there are invitations for gigs as well. There is no need to stop here. Maybe this was an interim statement when it came to an opportunity like this (to make a movie), VilleGalle says.

JVG Movie: Years in the Wind will premiere on March 25th.
