The young man from Malaga who has not left his room for nearly ten years, playing video games and watching series will be diagnosed again by the Ministry of Health of the Junta de Andalucía, the delegate of Health has informed this newspaper charles bautistawhich has specified that “an update of its assessment” will be made.

As reported by La Opinion de Málaga last Wednesday, the young man, with a fictitious name Antonio, is 31 years old and as a result of getting bad grades at the University of Malaga, where he was studying Business Administration, and a subsequent sports injury that had a rest month, He cut ties with the world and only leaves his room to eat with his mother, whose fictitious name is María, and to shower.

However, on two past occasions when the mother went to court to request a diagnosis, the psychiatrists concluded that he was in the room of his own free will and no disturbance was noted. For this reason, the mother demands a new diagnosis, being convinced that her son, who locks himself in her room when he listens to a mobile phone, suffers from agoraphobia.

“It is true that The fact that a young person has been in his room for ten years is not normal and that is why we will update his assessment”declared Carlos Bautista, who pointed out that once the young man receives a “psychiatric or psychological” assessment, if it is finally found that he has a problem, “we would have to ask him to start treatment, and if he needs medication or psychotherapy, he would have to want to help us because the psychologist is not going home. Along the same lines, he referred to the fact that he had not been vaccinated for Covid because he did not want to leave his room: The young man must take the step to get vaccinated.

The delegate also noted the possibility that a judge will withdraw his parental authority to be able to diagnose it, “but it may be in a non-acute situation and the diagnosis may not be very conclusive,” he said.

Carlos Bautista stressed that it is a “very complex matter, it is in the hands of our team and we are going to see if we can lend a hand”. The Health delegate finally remarked that although the young man’s situation is cause for concern, “I am almost more concerned about the caregiver, her mother, who is undoubtedly having a very bad time”.
