Vampire Survivors, by Italian Luca Galante, beat God of War Ragnarok and Elden Ring at the BAFTA Games Awards in England.
Surprise at the BAFTA Games Awards, where an Italian video game surpassed giants of 2022 to take home the title of Best Game. One could have imagined an easy win for Elden Ring, or at best for fellow God of War contender Ragnarok. Instead, the best game of the year statuette ended up in the hands of the creators of Vampire Survivors.
Vampire Survivors, Italy wins at the BAFTAs —
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has awarded the prize for best game of the year, or Best Game, to Vampire Survivors. The game – made by Poncle, the studio founded by the Italian Luca Galante – was a worldwide hit during 2022, despite being a survival game for just 5 euros with scrawny graphics and very simple gameplay inspired by the origins in the world of slot machine of its creator. The simplicity of the gameplay of Vampire Survivors has prompted many – who also loved the game – to complain about the awarding of the BAFTA award, stating that much more complex titles released in 2022 would have deserved it in its place.

The other prizes —
Not that there has been no lack of acknowledgments to the other big names among the candidates. God of War Ragnarok took home five awards (Animation, Audio Achievement and Music, Christopher Judge Best Performer in a Lead Role and Layla DeLeon Hayes, Angrboda Best Performer in a Supporting Role as well as Game of the year EE awarded by fans), while Elden Ring has excelled in multiplayer and in the category of new IP. Tunic won Artistic Achievement and Debut Game, and Horizon Forbidden West was awarded Technical Achievement for Graphics.
The Tides of the Foscari DLC —
On the day of recognition for Vampire Survivors – a rare achievement for our country, which typically, despite the most recent advances, drags itself at a great distance from the rest of the European industry – the announcement of the game’s second DLC also arrived. At a cost of 2 euros, Tides of the Foscari arrives on April 13 for PC and Xbox (the title is included in the Game Pass subscription), with 8 new characters, 13 new weapons, 1 stage, 7 unreleased songs, 20 achievements from regain on bailout 100%.
