The intruder at Oisterwijk primary school is a 19-year-old man from the village

The man arrested for breaking into a school in Oisterwijk is a 19-year-old man from the village. The man walked into a primary school on Willem de Zwijgerlaan on Tuesday morning around 8 a.m. and shouted that he was armed and had placed explosives. He was arrested around 12:20 p.m.

When the man broke in, a number of teachers and children were present at the school. The building was immediately evacuated and the teachers and children were housed in the premises of a nearby swimming pool.

Because it was not clear whether the suspect was still present in the school, officers from the Special Interventions Service (DSI) went inside, but the team found no one left.

The search continued for the man in the vicinity of the school. Because it was not clear whether explosives had been left behind, as the man had shouted, an extensive investigation followed in the school. A few hours later it turned out that there were no explosives in the school.

The 19-year-old man was arrested around 12:20 p.m. It is still unknown why the man entered the school and shouted that explosives had been placed.

There will be extra care for teachers, children, parents and caregivers in the coming days.
