The inhabitants of Velsen are not yet able to find the temporarily open lock route

The locks route on the Zeesluis IJmuiden prestige project was open again for cars today. The winding track has always been a popular crossing point due to the beauty of the route, but also a necessary back-up route if something goes wrong in the Velsertunnel. It never opened to cars again after work. Today for the first time, as a test.

Even after this test, it is not the intention that the locks route will be reopened definitively. Rijkswaterstaat only wants to see whether the route can be safely opened if all other roads to IJmuiden become clogged up due to accidents and work. Cyclists have been able to cross the lock from IJmuiden to Velsen-Noord or vice versa for some time now.
