Full-back who played in the Finnish national football team in World Cup qualifiers and Nations League games Niko Hämäläinen leaving London-based Queens Park Rangers. QPR informs that Hämäläinen terminated his contract by mutual consent.
At no point did Hämäläinen push himself through at QPR. The season that ended was difficult for him, as he only played in two matches in the Championship and played a total of 92 game minutes. In the winter, he was loaned to the Belgian second division RWD Molenbeek, where he collected scattered minutes in the playoffs that ended with the promotion celebration.
Hämäläinen joined QPR’s representative team through the club’s Academy and was part of the organization for eight years. In the 2020-2021 season, he played in 22 matches for the team, but in the other seasons he was recycled in the United States, Scotland, Brazil and Belgium on loan.
Hämäläinen’s departure was good news for the fans based on the comments received in QPR’s press release. Among other things, the team’s fan channel commented that QPR got rid of their curse. Even though there were a lot of cheering messages, the largest number of likes were directed at the comments joking about the player.

The 26-year-old Hämäläinen last represented the Finnish national team in the World Cup qualifiers in the fall of 2021. He has a total of 12 games in the A national team.
