Even if a tree house or hammock has to remain a dream: a tree fits into even the smallest garden. There is a choice of high and narrow or small and spherical.
A house tree is part of the family, so to speak. But which one fits into small, narrow gardens? According to the Bundesverband Garten-, Landschafts- und Sportplatzbau (BGL), there are some shrubs with a small crown that grow slowly and do not get that high.
For example, spherical trees with a short trunk only have a trunk that is about 1.80 meters high. These include the spherical maple, the spherical acacia or the spherical locust. If they are cut regularly and professionally, they will keep their compact shape for years.
Trees with a narrow columnar shape are also suitable. They can get quite tall, but depending on the species, they are only one and a half meters in diameter.
The columnar mountain ash or the columnar ornamental cherry, for example, are well suited.
By the way, if you regularly cut back a really large tree, you will not get the small house tree you want. Rather, it disturbs the natural growth and the crown does not look nice as a result.
