The municipality of Het Hogeland will get a new town hall. The new building must replace the three existing town halls in Winsum, Uithuizen and Leens.
The City Council approved it on Wednesday night. The aim of the new building is to create a more pleasant workplace for employees, to arrange things more centrally and thus improve cooperation within all departments.
Cost and distance to residents
Prior to the decision, objections from the opposition parties mainly revolved around the costs and the fear that the distance between residents and the municipality would become too great if there was only one town hall in one place. Alderman Stefan van Keijzerswaard (VVD) estimates the costs at 25 to 35 million euros.
The new town hall should be in Winsum, Warffum or Baflo, but the final location has not yet been chosen. The Hogeland now has three town halls: in Winsum, Leens and Uithuizen. The idea of the Municipal Executive is to close it and build a new town hall in a central location. B and W opted for new construction from a whole range of options and scenarios, such as adapting and expanding the current town halls.
