The Hockey Federation removes lion shirts and championship pennants from the roof of Hartwall Arena

The Finnish Hockey Association removes lion shirts and championship pennants from the roof of the Russian-owned Hartwall Arena.

– the Finnish Hockey Association condemns Russia’s measures in Ukraine and has begun discussions with the International Hockey Association and other key hockey countries to assess the situation and possible measures, in the bulletin it is said.

– As an immediate measure, the Hockey Association has decided that the Lion shirts and championship pennants now revered at Hartwall Arena will be lowered from the roof of Hartwall Arena. The future location of the shirts will be decided later, the bulletin continues.

The 2022 World Hockey Championships will be played in Finland. There is now a heated debate in sports circles and decision-making bodies about how to react to Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

Many Finnish athletes have already announced that they do not intend to travel to Russia to compete. Several international federations are currently discussing the fate of sports competitions in Russia.

There are also enough questions about the KHL continuation of the Helsinki Jokers. The Jokers play their home game at Hartwall Arena.

Finland won the Russian Olympic final 2–1.
