He wants to tell the story of Erebor, kingdom of the dwarves, stronghold of King Throrland of boundless riches and prosperous until the dragon Smaug he didn’t invade and conquer it by forcing the dwarves to flee.
We are catapulted into the moment the young Bilbo Baggins is visited by the sorcerer Gandalf (Ian McKellen) who wants to convince him to reconquer the kingdom of the dwarves. Bilbo Baggins is reluctant and at first doesn’t accept. But Gandalf does not give up. He returns, this time accompanied by 12 dwarves and their leader Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage). He intends to complete the adventure of snatching Erebor from the clutches of the hideous dragon Smaug.
Bilbo Baggins is finally convinced and so begins the fantastic and exciting journey among orcs, elves, eagles, werewolves and other dangers, to reconquer the endless treasures of the dwarves. Along the way is Gollum, ambiguous and complex anthropomorphic creature who has a minor role here, but is one of the main characters of The Lord of the Rings.
